Thunder on the Fox

I need to start paying a little more attention.

I find things like this an abuse to a river. Especially a river like the Fox that once upon a time wasn’t known for being in the best of condition.

Thunder on the Fox

Too late to do anything about it now. I just hope nobody hits a submerged log. That can ruin your day. But then, maybe there won’t be a next time.

I guess sitting along the shore enjoying the peace and quiet of a river isn’t enough. Paddling down the river in a canoe or kayak doesn’t quite cut it. So, why not go sit around watching boats scream down the river at 125 mph.

Oh fun.

  1. If it brings some business to Elgin, I say more power to him. Fishing a quiet river is not a spectator sport, and it certainly isn’t bringing in much money to Elgin.

I’d watch if I was guaranteed to witness a non-fatal wreck.

    1. I think they need to come up with something better than making a mess of a river. I don’t know, Gladiators maybe? Throw some women and children into an arena. Add a few carnivores and some guy with a stick to try to protect them. When that’s over, a bunch of ex-football players with real spears and swords. Fight to the death, for real. That will bring the crowds and makes about as much sense as what McGrath wants to do.

      But then, that’s just me.

      1. (spectator garbage aside) What is it about a boat race that messes up a river worse than a Spring gully-washer? The river gets messed up on a regular basis just from shifting weather patterns.

There is an annual boat race like this on the K3, I wonder how the fisherman feel that impacts the fishing there?

And aren’t you done fishing the river that far North? I thought you were going to concentrate your efforts further down and in more creeks?

        1. Spring gully washers are supposed to happen.
On mid sized rivers, especially ones that have water quality issues to begin with, anything that adversely effects the river is not a good thing. Gas in the water, shore erosion, dams, noise.
Once had a jet ski flying up the river, back and forth, at Indian Trail. Matter of time before he bottomed out on rock, which he did and couldn’t get it off. He asked me to help since I was wading.
I told him if I helped, you’ll come back some other day. I don’t want you to come back. So he had to walk over a mile back to his friends. Too bad for him.
There’s an idiot that has one of those big swamp buggies down my way. You can hear him coming over a mile away. We had a confrontation on the river a couple of years ago. He thought it was funny to get close to me, until I raised my rod to cast into his propeller.

But then, I don’t get NASCAR, sports in general and pretty much anything where you sit around and watch.

  2. St Charles has dragon boat races. Twenty paddlers per boat. I was on a team, but you can just show up and paddle. I hope to do it again this year.
